Not what I was expecting: Chris Cairns gives shock health development

Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Cairns revealed the development on Saturday, 5 February and stated that he is ready for yet another battle, but hopes that this one ends swiftly. Cairns was discharged from the hospital last week, after a live-saving heart operation and then a long habilitation programme. Cairns was left paralyzed in both legs after his surgery and kept posting updates about his recovery from time to time in the last few months. In his playing days, Cairns was one of the forces in world cricket setting several records to his name. He was only among a very few people at the time who had scored 3000 runs in Test cricket and had taken 200 wickets.

No communication between BCCI and CAB results in confusion over crowd capacity

Cricket Administration of Bengal President Avishek Dalmiya has said that he has not received any communication from the higher-ups at the Board of Control for Cricket in India about change in crowd capacity at the Eden Gardens. Dalmiya’s statement comes a day after Sourav Ganguly told news agency PTI that there will be no crowd at Kolkata for the India vs West Indies T20I series. His statement went against BCCI’s line of communication that Ahmedabad would not host any crowd, while Eden will have 75 per cent capacity. Dalmiya told ANI that he would not like to issue a reaction on the matter but made it clear that the CAB were yet to receive an update in communication from the BCCI. Eden Gardens is scheduled to host India and West Indies in a three match T20I series between 16-20 February.

Ricky Ponting smashes Cricket Australia over the sacking of Justin Langer

Ricky Ponting has come out to heavily criticise the incidents that led to the resignation of Justin Langer as the head coach of the Australia men’s national team. Justin langer stepped down from his position with immediate effect after contract negotiations broke down in the past week. Langer was offered a short term extension which he refused and the news was made public on Saturday, February 5. Calling it a sad day for Australian cricket, Ponting accused Cricket Australia of mishandling the Langer situation. "It is a really sad day as far as Australian cricket is concerned and if you look back it has been a really poor six months on the whole in the way that Cricket Australia has handled some of the better people in the Australian cricket - Justin Langer and Tim Paine - and I think it's been almost embarrassing the way they have handled those two cases," Ponting was quoted by ESPNcricinfo. "He mustn't have had the full backing of the board. Me knowing Justin the way that I do, he was very keen to continue in the role, as he should have been after what's been the best coaching period of his international career having just won the T20 World Cup and then the 4-0 result in the Ashes,” the former Australian captain further added. The legendary right hander also delved into the controversy that surrounds captain Pat Cummins in the role but stayed away from directly criticising the fast bowler. "I think Pat also has been put in a difficult situation as captain, if it's not just him and it is other players coming to him and letting him know that maybe they think Justin is not the right man then I think that puts Pat in a difficult position as well. "If he had got on the front foot and endorsed Justin they would not have been in a position to move him on,” Ponting concluded.
