  • Ind Vs Sl 1St Test Day 2 India In Pole Position As Mighty Jadeja All Rounder Ashwin Weave Their Magic

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day 2: India in pole position as mighty Jadeja, all-rounder Ashwin weave their magic

As it happened, Day 2 of the ongoing Test match between India and Sri Lanka saw the hosts dominating the proceedings. India continued to maintain their firm grip over the game as timid Sri Lanka surrendered to a heroic batting performance from Ravindra Jadeja.

After India finished Day 1 on 357/6, the duo of Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were required to put in the hard yards and carry on their outstanding display of batsmanship. Both the batters never let their foot off the pedal as India aimed to score quick runs.

While Ashwin stamped his authority with a wide array of shots, Jadeja relied on drives and controlled the innings in every aspect. However, the right-handed batter's grit ended after scoring 61 runs as a bouncer caught him off guard and made him top-edge the ball to the wicket-keeper's hands.

Soon after, Jadeja brought up his second Test ton and mesmerised the milestone with the famous sword celebration. His valiant innings was more of typical Test match batting and less fancy strokeplay.

The first session of the day belonged to India as they raced up to 468/7 with Jadeja and Jayant Yadav on the crease at the lunch break.

With only 12 balls into the second session, Jayant was dismissed for 2 runs, trying to drive a full-length delivery that resulted in a thick edge straight to Lahiru Thirimanne, who was stationed at the first slip. Mohammad Shami joined hands with Jadeja as India now had its sights set on taking the scoring rate a notch up.

Jadeja turned on his beast mode and searched for boundaries in every over, while Shami focused on surviving. In no time, the southpaw racked up 150 runs, courtesy of a maximum. More sixes were to be seen as Jadeja tinkered with the Sri Lankan bowlers.

Eventually, India declared their first innings for 574/8 with a record-breaking 175-run knock of Jadeja. Shami stayed unbeaten for 20 runs.

It was Sri Lanka's turn to push the bar on the batting paradise but expectedly their top-order batters proved to be unsuccessful in pulling off a decent show. Ashwin provided India with the first breakthrough as the Islanders lost their opener, Lahiru Thirimanne at the score of 48 off Ashwin's delivery.

Jadeja came on with his golden arm and gave the hosts another moment to cherish after trapping opposition skipper Dimuth Karunaratne LBW. Jasprit Bumrah followed the suit and made his mark in the wickets tally after dismissing experienced Angelo Mathews. Ashwin again weaved his magic and sent Dhananjaya de Silva back to the dressing room.

At the end of the day's play, India lead by 466 runs with Sri Lanka sitting at 108 for the loss of four wickets.

Sunil Gavaskar makes shocking comments post Shane Warne’s demise

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar faced severe backlash after his shameful take on recently departed legend Shane Warne, who passed away due to a suspected heart attack on Friday. Gavaskar, while expressing his feelings on the demise of the legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne, the host of the show asked the ex-Indian skipper to rate Warne among the best spinners of all time. Surprisingly, the former opener refused to rate him as the best spinner and mentioned Muttiah Muralitharan and Indian spinners were ahead of the spin wizard in terms of bowling. ‘Sunny G’ revealed how Warney was always the first one to reach out to him and his colleagues in the evenings for meals. “He was looking to live life king-size”, Gavaskar remarked, further adding: “Maybe, because he lived life in such a manner, is perhaps why his heart couldn’t take it and he died so soon”, with the reference to his suspected heart attack. “No, I wouldn’t say that no. For me the Indian spinners and Muttiah Muralitharan were better than Shane Warne,” Gavaskar told India Today. “He had a pretty ordinary record against India and took a five-for once. I wouldn’t call him the greatest as he failed in India. Muttiah Muralitharan was impressive against the Indians and for me, he was far better than Warne,” the cricketer-turned commentator further mentioned. His comments on the news channel didn't sit well with the fans as he faced a mighty backlash on social media platforms. People felt that such irresponsible comments don't suit one of the greats of the game, especially about the best leg-spinner the world has come across. Gavaskar indirectly belittled the five-wicket haul that Shane Warne took against India in the 2004 tour, mentioning that he was batting consultant of the Indian team and he told his guys not to concede a five-wicket haul to the spin wizard Shane Warne. He further stated that he was very upset by that shot of Zaheer Khan which he played against Warne to help him complete his five-for against India.
