ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 | NZ-W vs BAN-W | Match 5 Preview, Predictions, Fantasy XI

Games are coming thick and fast in the Women’s World Cup and match number five of the tournament features the hosts, New Zealand Women up against Bangladesh Women on March 7, 2022, at University Oval in Dunedin.

White Ferns will be disappointed as they couldn’t score 6-runs in the last over of Deandra Dottin, losing to West Indies Women by just 3-runs in their opening encounter. Sophie Devine’s superb century, Katey Martin’s excellent innings to take her team close to the target and Lea Tahuhu’s 3-wickets haul were the positives to take for them from that game.

They will expect similar performances from these and will also try to restrict their opponents from their sharp bowling and fielding. It will be a home match for the trio of Suzie Bates, Hayley Jensen and Katey Martin from Otago Sparks.

In an interview for local media the trio said,  “We are excited to play here in Dunedin. We were looking forward to this for a long time. Now it’s our opportunity to showcase our talent in front of our family and the locals.”

Bangladesh Women’s team have now got an idea about how it feels to be on the field in a major tournament. But after having an upper hand for the majority of the first innings and in the beginning of the second innings against South Africa Women. However, they still lacked the cutting edge and were on the losing side.

Bangladesh bowled really well, especially the new ball duo of  Jahanara Alam and Fariha Trisna.  The major issues with them is their approach with the batting and lack of experience about what to do in the crucial junctures of the game and it was pretty evident in their tournament opener.

After losing to South Africa Women’s by 32-runs, Bangladesh Women skipper Nigar Sultana said to press, “Ritu Moni and I had a chat in the last game that if we can play till the end the result would be different. We are here to cheer our fans, who are waiting for a win. We are not going to disappoint them in the next match.”

Although New Zealand Women will start as favourites one cannot take Bangladesh Women lightly as they will look to impress everyone in their first ever World Cup.

ICC Women's World Cup 2022 | INDW vs PAKW: Pooja Vastrakar, Sneh Rana script India's fightback

India began the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan in Mount Maunganui on Sunday. Batting first, the Indian team had a disappointing start to the proceedings after Shafali Verma was cleaned up for a six-ball zero by Diana Baig before opener Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma came in for the side’s rescue. The two batters stitched a stand of 92 runs for the second wicket with Mandhana notching up a fifty while Deepti scoring 40 in 57 balls. But Deepti’s dismissal at a team score of 96 was followed by a flurry of wickets, leaving India tottering at 114/6. Later, it was Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar who provided the resistance with a partnership of 122 runs for the seventh wicket. While Rana remained unbeaten at 53, Vastrakar scored 67 in just 59 balls, helping India put 244/7 in 50 overs. Nida Dar and Nashra Sandhu scalped two wickets each for Pakistan while Diana, Anam Amin and Fatima Sana had one dismissal apiece. “It wasn't a good start for me, I want to attack the batters and maintain my consistency, but I think I pulled it back, 2 for 45 was pretty good. I want to bowl according to situations, the target is chaseable, the wicket looks flat and the ball is coming nicely onto the bat. The partnership was good, we can learn from them, we have good batters on our side as well. My responsibility is to build partnerships with the other batters,” Dar said after the innings.
