ICC Women's U19 WC Asia Qualifier | Nepal U19 Women bowled out for 8 runs by UAE

Nepal Women endured a forgettable outing on Saturday (June 4) as they were dismissed for a mere 8 runs in 8.1 overs by the United Arab Emirates in the ongoing ICC Under-19 Women's World Cup Asia Qualifier.

Batting first, Nepal batters had no answers to the off-spin of Mahika Gaur, who wreaked havoc and claimed barely believable figures of 4-2-2-5, bowling 22 dot deliveries in her spell.

Gaur received ample support from Indhuja Nandakumar, who gave UAE the first breakthrough when she dismissed Anjali Bishowkarna.

Nandakumar went to add two more wickets to her tally, finishing with figures of 3-6. As many as six Nepalese batters registered ducks.

The target was swiftly overhauled by the pair of Lavanya Keny and Theertha Satish. The duo took just 7 deliveries to wipe off the 9-run target to hand their side a massive ten-wicket win with 113 deliveries to spare.

The defeat comes as a huge flow to Nepal's ambition of making it to the top draw of the inaugural ICC Women's U19 World Cup, which will take place in South Africa in January next year.

The showpiece tournament was originally set to take place in January 2021 but was postponed due to the global pandemic.

The 16-team tournament will consist of 11 full-membered nations  - India, Australia, England, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Bangladesh - and the United States of America, who have been awarded automatic qualification as they are the only Associate nation to compete from the America region.

The remaining four spots will be filled by Regional Qualifiers.

Nepal and the UAE are currently locked in a five-team battle in the Asia Qualifiers, the other team's being Bhutan, Qatar and Thailand.

As a result, only one team will get the chance to represent their nation at the U-19 showpiece event next year.
