We are heading towards one more thriller in the 12th edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup as we see West Indies Women clashing against India Women at Seddon Park in Hamilton on March 12, 2022.
In both games, women in Maroon are in fourth place after holding their nerves, while Women in Blue are in the fifth position with a win and a loss. Both the teams are playing their third game.
The Windies have luck going their way in both games, but it doesn’t take away the hard work they have put in. They have kept their nerve in defending 260 and 226 in their respective first and second game.
Hayley Matthews is in good form as she has a total of 164 runs to her name so far. Deandra Dottin and Stafanie Taylor are always the players to watch out for. When their middle order doesn’t fire, they will have their lower-order steading the ship, making them a team to beat.
Whereas the bowling department has the experiences of Anisa Mohammed, Shamilia Connell, and the all-rounder expertise of Matthews as well. They are hoping to do something similar to what they have done in the games earlier.
Meanwhile, India are coming off from a defeat from the hosts New Zealand Women. Mithali Raj raised the topic of problems in batting as they didn’t score positively, chewing up many deliveries. But, apart from Harmanpreet Kaur, nobody looked like finding the gap in the field.
The bowling is of less concern for the team in Blue as Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Jhulan Goswami continue their form, which they gained during the warm-up games. In addition, Pooja Vastrakar is an excellent addition to the all-round department and Sneh Rana.
Former India coach WV Raman reacts, “The team’s selection choices need a rethink. It’s not always all about the numbers”, on Shafali Verma’s exclusion from the team against the New Zealand Women due to her poor run of form.
One team is high on confidence with winning both their games so far while the other has some thinking to do in their batting area. But this will be the new day, the new game. Both the teams look similar on paper, hoping to watch an edge of the seat thriller.
