In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a hefty fine on India Women for breaching a major code of conduct. The governing body penalised the Women in Blue after it found them guilty of violating Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
ICC Sanctions Heavy Fine To India Women
Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct deals with minimum over-rate violations. The ICC penalises the players five per cent of their match fees for each over that is not completed within the stipulated time.
As the India Women were found one over short in the Tri-Series opener against Sri Lanka Women at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the ICC match referee Vanessa de Silva fined the Indian players.
However, no formal hearing was conducted, as Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the sanctions.
India Women Sustain Dream Run In ODI Tri-Series
Talking about the game, India Women secured a one-sided victory in the first match of the Tri-Series, swatting aside the hosts by nine wickets. Batting first, the Lankans posted a sub-par total of 147 runs in the rain-marred clash.
In response, India Women aced the chase inside 30 overs, riding on stunning unbeaten knocks from Pratika Rawal and Harleen Deol.
The Indian Women extended their winning streak, defeating their South African counterparts in a close contest on Tuesday. After posting their third-highest team total against the Proteas, India Women bowled their opponents out for 261 runs, claiming a thrilling 15-run victory.
The emphatic win helped them consolidate their top position in the points table. Thus, India Women are high on confidence and will face the Sri Lankans in their third fixture on May 4 in Colombo.
