' I Trust You' -  Lasith Malinga's Special Message For Struggling Matheesha Pathirana

The World Cup comes with its pressures and tensions. For Sri Lanka's young recruit Matheesha Pathirana, the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India has been quite rough.

The T20-famed bowler, Pathirana gave away 90 runs against Pakistan on Tuesday evening in their world-record chase in a World Cup while managing just a solitary wicket.

In Sri Lanka's opener against South Africa as well, the 20-year-old got canned for 95 runs, grabbing just one wicket. Facing backlash on social media and heat from Lankan fans, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player has found support from former legend Lasith Malinga.

Malinga, known for bowling yorkers and a master of deception given his uncanny bowling action, took to Facebook and endorsed the young pacer, who is fondly called 'Baby Malinga' for his resemblance to the former's action. 

 Malinga posted, "I'm with you Matheesha 👥 & I trust you 🤝"

After his match against Pakistan, Pathirana topped an unwanted ODI bowling record, having bowled most wides since June 2023. The side-armed pacer has dished out 71 wides, which include 18 against Pakistan last evening alone, ahead of the likes of Alzarri Joseph (22), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (21), Fazalhaz Farooqui (21), and Shaheen Shah Afridi (21). 

So far, the Dasun Shanaka-led side have lost both their World Cup encounters ( South Africa and Pakistan ) and will look to turn over fortunes against Australia on October 16.
