  • I Think When The Match Gets Tight He Panics A Bit Wasim Jaffer On Pants Captaincy

'I think when the match gets tight, he panics a bit’- Wasim Jaffer on Pant's captaincy

After witnessing an impeccable and wholesome long-edition of the IPL, it hasn't been a great time for several Indian cricket fanatics. The ongoing five-match T20I series between India and South Africa hasn't favoured the Men in Blue.

Currently, the Proteas lead the way by winning the first two matches of the series. The third and crucial T20I match would be crucial for the fate of the series.

At first, KL Rahul was appointed the captain for the series. But an injury concern has hindered the budding captain from going forward. On that note, Rishabh Pant had got his first-ever national captaincy call. But, based on the team's current scenario in the series, Pant's captaincy has been the talking point for quite a moment.

Several cricket players and fanatics have voiced their opinions on it. One such has come from the former Indian batter, Wasim Jaffer.

"Yes, we have seen that thing, even in the IPL. Somewhere down the line, I think, the more he leads, the better he will become. But currently, at this stage, I think that when the match becomes tight, he panics a little bit," said Wasim Jaffer.

In the recent edition of the IPL, Rishabh Pant got his maiden call to become the full-time captain of the Delhi Capitals. However, there were some factors where the wicketkeeper-batter lagged, especially in his attacking batting approach. Also, he had made a few DRS blunders and failed to take up some crucial catches.

"To some extent, the series is out of India's hands. Because if you are trailing 2-0 in a five-match series if in any of the next matches there are even small shortcomings, then... I think India will have to play brilliant cricket from here on. Irrespective of the above-par score should be made," Jaffer added.

Also, Wasim Jaffer agrees to the point that even toss plays a pivotal role in deciding the match's way. In this series, India has lost both the tosses. So, there is no doubt that tosses can also win matches. Wasim Jaffer had his opinion on it, "Yes, that's been the story so far. South Africa won both the tosses, and both results went their way, so India needs to win at least the next two tosses."

The third T20I of the series will be played in Visakhapatnam on June 14.
