An emotional Rashid Khan took to social media and wished Happy Independence Day to the people of Afghanistan.
“Today let us take some time to value our nation and never forget the sacrifices. We hope and pray for the peaceful , developed and United nation INSHALLAH #happyindependenceday,” Rashid wrote on Twitter. Afghanistan is going through a tough phase after it was taken over by Taliban.
Earlier, Rashid and Mohammad Nabi had urged the world leaders’ to support the Asian nation in the time of “chaos”.
“Dear World Leaders! My country is in chaos,thousands of innocent people, including children & women, get martyred everyday, houses & properties being destructed.Thousand families displaced.. Don’t leave us in chaos,” Rashid Khan tweeted.
Both the players are presently in the UK as they are featuring in the inaugural edition of The Hundred tournament. The two Afghan players will also be available to take part in the IPL 2021 reminder which will be held in the UAE in September-October.
The tournament that was suspended due to Covid-19 outbreak within the franchises will now resume on September 19 when Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings.
Amid the tough situation, the Afghanistan Cricket Board had also confirmed earlier that the side will take part in the upcoming World T20 that is slated to begin on October 17, a couple of days after the conclusion of IPL and will be held in the UAE and Oman.
“Yes, we will play in the T20 World Cup,” the Afghanistan cricket team's media manager Hikmat Hassan said.
Co-hosts Oman will lock horns with Papua New Guinea in the opening game.
