The opening match of the T20 Blast 2022 will see the Yorkshire Vikings take on Worcestershire Rapids at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds on Wednesday (May 25) night. Ahead of the game, Yorkshire's Jordan Thompson has expressed views that he and teammate Harry Brook would like to have a successful season with the club.
Dubbed 'Blast Brothers', the duo created history last season against Worcestershire, scoring 141 from 56 balls and joining hands with the team at 50 for 5. This is a domestic T20 record for the sixth wicket and the second-highest globally.
"It doesn't seem like two minutes ago since that night. Hopefully, me and Brooky can recreate something like that and have a good start to this year's comp.
"I took massive confidence from that game moving forward into the rest of the competition and through the summer and into the winter. It kickstarted quite a good year for me, and the onus is on me to take the experiences that I've had in T20 now and to make sure that I'm a consistent performer," the bowling all-rounder said to yorkshirepost.co.uk.
Brook was the Vikings' second-highest run-scorer behind Jonny Bairstow with 486 runs. Thompson contributed 215 runs across 10 games, apart from being their joint second-leading wicket-taker with Lockie Ferguson (14).
This year, the Yorkshire-based club have signed Pakistan's bowling duo of Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf. New Zealand's hard-hitting batter Finn Allen has also been added to the mix this year.
Speaking on the new signings, the ambidextrous player said he looks forward to playing with them after seeing them in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at close quarters.
"I've played against Shadab in the PSL, and he performed really well out there, with bat and ball, so to have him in our squad as a wrist-spinner along with Rash (Adil Rashid), and then Bessy (Dominic Bess) as well, we've got some great control through the middle overs.
"Our death bowling last year was good with Lockie (Ferguson) in; it was a spot that we really had to fill. We've got Haris this year who will take up that role and hopefully perform well, and then after Haris goes, lads are going to have to step up to the plate as death bowlers," the 25-year-old concluded.
Yorkshire defeated Worcestershire in both games they clashed in the last edition and will look to continue the feat on Wednesday as well.
