Harmanpreet Kaur elated after India's win over Pakistan

Team India registered a comprehensive victory against Pakistan in the women’s cricket event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Sunday, July 31 at the Edgbaston Cricket Stadium in Birmingham.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women's team outplayed the arch-rivals by eight wickets chasing 100 runs in the match. With this dominating victory, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team is off the mark at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after losing the tournament opener against Australia.

Speaking to reporters after India's thumping win, a delighted Harmanpreet said that she was "quite pleased" with the result against their neighbouring country.

"We were quite positive. Even in the last game, we played good cricket in patches and everybody knew that today’s game was important for us as we would be able to carry the momentum into the next matches. The way our team played today, I was quite pleased,"  said Harmanpreet Kaur after the match.

The Indian skipper further explained India's strategic decisions behind the addition of all-rounders - Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma - for the high-octane clash.

"Sneh Rana has always played good against Pakistan and that's why brought her back into the team and since Pakistan had a plenty of left handed batters, we decided to go with two off spinners," added Harmanpreet.

Playing Rana in a high-pressure match proved to be a game-changing move as the off-spinning all-rounder returned as the best Indian bowler with figures of 2/15 in the allotted 4 overs.

The 33-year-old Indian batter further stated that her ultimate aim is to win the gold medal at the CWG 2022.

"The only reason behind coming here is to win the gold medal and I am quite happy with today's performance," she concluded.
