The Mumbai Indians (MI) IPL 2024 campaign suffered another setback as they were defeated by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with a four-wicket loss on Tuesday.

This loss, their seventh in ten games, places them ninth on the points table, making their playoff chances increasingly slim. To add to their troubles, team captain Hardik Pandya has been hit with a hefty Rs 24 lakh fine for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match, which is his second violation this season.

Financial Penalty for Slow Over-Rate

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the penalty in a statement, highlighting the team's repeated slow over-rate violations

"Mr Hardik Pandya, Captain, Mumbai Indians has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 48 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on April 30, 2024," the BCCI noted.

It further elaborated that since this was the team’s second offense of the season, Pandya was fined INR 24 Lac.

Moreover

"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 Lac or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser."

It was also noted that if Hardik is guilty of the same offense again, he could face a one-match suspension.

Internal Tensions and Team Performance

Amid these challenges, there have also been reports of internal friction within the team. Following a previous loss to Delhi Capitals, a clash reportedly occurred between Hardik Pandya and young cricketer Tilak Varma, highlighting potential tensions in the MI Dressing room.
