Hardik Pandya Ruled Out Of 2023 World Cup; Prasidh Krishna Named Replacement

In a massive setback for team India, ace all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the ongoing World Cup due to an ankle injury. India have named promising pacer Prasidh Krishna as his replacement for the remainder of the marquee event.

Notably, Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while bowling during India’s fourth league-stage game against Bangladesh in Pune. He immediately left the field after developing a swollen ankle and never returned to further participate in the game.

Consequently, the Men in Blue roped in swashbuckling finisher Suryakumar Yadav as his batting replacement, while also swapping Shardul Thakur with Mohammed Shami.

Although some reports suggested that he might come back for India’s final league-stage game against the Netherlands, the veteran all-rounder’s failure to recover in time compelled India to request the ICC for his replacement.

The event technical committee approved India’s replacement player on Saturday, meaning Prasidh Krishna is available for selection for their eighth league-stage game against the rampant Proteas in Kolkata.

In his brief international career, Krishna has represented India in 17 ODIs, scalping 29 wickets at an impressive average of 25.59. However, considering how the India pace trio, comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, has performed so far, we don’t think India will draft Krishna straight into the playing XI.
