The Gujarat Giants franchise has roped in New Zealand fast bowler Lea Tahuhu to replace Australian cricketer Lauren Cheatle for the forthcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 season.

Cheatle, who was slated to make her WPL debut through the 2024 season, had to opt out of the tournament after she underwent a medical procedure to have skin cancer removed from her neck.

Lea Tahuhu finds a place in WPL after going unsold

New Zealand white-ball veteran Lea Tahuhu is set to represent the Gujarat Giants franchise in the much-awaited WPL 2024 season. The 33-year-old speedster originally went unsold at the WPL 2024 auction a couple of months ago.

Lea Tahuhu made her international debut in June 2011 with an ODI against Australia in Brisbane. Since her debut, the Canterbury star has featured in 93 ODIs and 80 T20I matches to claim 187 wickets across both formats combined.

The right-arm fast bowler holds a legion of franchise-based T20 experience, as she has turned up for teams like Sydney Thunder in WBBL, Manchester Originals in Women's The Hundred, as well as for the Supernovas in the now-defunct Women's T20 Challenge.

In the Gujarat Giants setup, she will join the likes of fellow overseas stars Beth Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner, Laura Wolvaardt, and local Indian talent Harleen Deol and Sneh Rana. With a mere two weeks left till the commencement of the WPL 2024 season, here is an updated look at Gujarat Giants' entire squad for the tournament.
