After facing backlash on social media for his harsh comments about the Indian team following their loss to Zimbabwe, politician Shashi Tharoor praised the second-string Indian squad for their dominant 100-run victory in the second T20I, which leveled the five-match series at 1-1.

The new-look Indian team had suffered a surprising 13-run defeat to an inexperienced but determined Zimbabwe side in the first T20I, marking India's first T20I loss of 2024 and their first defeat to Zimbabwe in eight years.

This upset provided ample fodder for critics and trolls, including Tharoor, who criticized the BCCI for scheduling the Zimbabwe tour just days after their World Cup triumph in Barbados.

After India bounced back with an emphatic win just 24 hours after their heart-wrenching loss, Tharoor made a u-turn on Sunday and congratulated Team India.

He took to social media to acknowledge that he had been trolled for his earlier tweet criticizing the young players' loss, which came just days after Rohit Sharma's senior team won the T20 World Cup in the West Indies. Tharoor gave credit where it was due, especially to opener Abhishek Sharma, who became the fastest Indian batter to score a T20I century.

India, electing to bat first, amassed a mammoth total of 234/2, thanks to brilliant knocks from centurion Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rinku Singh.

The Indian bowlers worked cohesively, bundling out the hosts for 134, with Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan leading the charge with the ball.
