Gambhir and Kohli - (Source:@Johns/X.com)
On Sunday, February 23, India locked horns against Bangladesh in the fifth match of Champions Trophy 2025. Virat Kohli's heroics helped the Men in Blue hand Pakistan a six-wicket win to put a foot in the semi-finals of the prestigious events.
Virat scored a brilliant 100 (111) and smashed his 51st ODI hundred to stun the Mohammad Rizwan-led side. With the knock, Kohli also silenced his critics, who cried for his ouster from the team because of his slump with the bat. Before the knock against Pakistan, Kohli struggled for runs and his last fifty-over ton too came in 2023 World Cup semi-finals against New Zealand.
When Gautam Gambhir Asked Kohli About His Future
Now, since the entire world is singing praise for Virat, there was a brief period when the Indian management too had given up on Kohli, and according to a report from Inside Sports, the patience was lost during BGT, where head coach Gautam Gambhir had asked Virat about his future in the Indian team.
“Hours after Virat Kohli’s superlative performance against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Champions Trophy match in Dubai on Sunday — it has come to light that chief selector Ajit Agarkar and coach Gautam Gambhir had wanted to know the star batter’s “future plan” during the fag end of the Australian tour when runs weren’t coming that freely. By asking such a question about his future plan, the selector and coach perhaps wanted clarity about Kohli’s preferences,” read InsideSports news.
Virat Kohli Had A Poor 2024
In 2024, Virat scored 655 runs in 32 innings, averaging just 23.8. He scored a solitary century that too came in the first match of the Test series against Australia. Further, he only played three ODIs and couldn't score big.
Kohli's knock against Pakistan was his first big score in the fifty-over format in the ODIs in a long time, which is a positive sign for Men in Blue.
