Former Under-19 Haryana player Mrinak Singh has been arrested by police authorities in Delhi on charges of fraud.

Singh, 25, was arrested at Delhi's IGI Airpot by immigration officials while trying to escape to Hong Kong. The accused had a look-out-circular (LOC) issued against him by a local court after issuing a non-bailable warrant.

Singh, who hails from Faridabad has been accused of impersonating a Karnataka IPS officer and duping several luxury hotels and managers, apart from conning Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant.

The cricketer, who claims to have played for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been arrested for having duped the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi of INR 5 lakhs in July 2022.

The director of Security Taj Place Hotel registered an FIR at Chanakyapuri police station in August 2022, accusing Singh of staying in the hotel between July 22 and 29 while posing as a cricketer and leaving unpaid bills of INR 5,53,362.

Upon asking for unpaid dues, Singh stated that Adidas would pay the bills and also shared a fake UTR number of online transactions worth INR 2 lakhs with hotel authorities.

As revealed in the investigation, Singh duped Pant in 2020-2021 for INR 1.63 crore as well.

As stated by ACP New Delhi Ravi Kant Kumar, Singh did not respond to calls and even posed as a fake Karnataka AGDP Alok Kumar upon detention.

“From the prima facie analysis of his mobile phone, it was revealed that there are multiple victims of his fraud and impersonation and duped amount runs into several lakhs of rupees. His victims include hotels, bars, restaurants, girls, cab drivers, small eating outlets among others.”

Interestingly, Singh misled the police, claiming that his father, Ashok Kumar Singh, a former India player between the 1980s and 1990s, was working as a manager at Air India at IGI airport.
