In a recent interview, former Indian Premier League (IPL) champion Ambati Rayudu emphasized the significance of player empowerment in IPL teams, pointing to the success of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) under Gautam Gambhir's mentorship.

Ambati Rayudu highlighted the importance of coaches taking a back seat and allowing players to take ownership of their decisions.


Rayudu Hails Gambhir's Influence in KKR Success

Rayudu stated, "Teams where coaches give players freedom do better," praising Gambhir's approach with KKR this season.

“If the coaches take a back seat and work behind the scenes, and let the players take ownership, and let the players have the freedom to perform on the ground, these are the sort of teams that excel, and that is what KKR has been doing," Rayudu mentioned.

Under Gambhir's mentorship, KKR has secured their spot in the playoffs, becoming the first team to do so this season. With nine wins and 19 points, KKR's resurgence under Gambhir's influence has been remarkable. 

Gambhir's leadership as a mentor has been credited with revitalizing the team after nearly a decade.

Rayudu's insights shed light on the dynamics between coaches and players in successful IPL teams, emphasizing the role of player ownership and freedom in decision-making.
