Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam celebrated Test cricket’s return to Pakistan in style after scoring a ton in the first innings of the first match against South Africa in Karachi. After being reduced to 27/4, Azam held the fort strong and went to notch up his third Test hundred.
Earlier, Pakistan bowlers bundled out the Proteas for 220 in the first innings with Yasir Shah picking up a three-for. Dean Elgar top-scored for Pakistan with 58.
Interestingly, this is Alam's third Test hundred and the left-handed batsman has got no fifties to his name.
Fawad had to wait for 11 years to get a call back in the Pakistan Test squad. He returned against England last year but failed to open his account in the first outing.
In the second match, he scored 21 in the first innings while remained not out at 0 in the second innings.
The left-hander did turn tables for himself with a hundred against New Zealand in December last year. Pakistan though lost the Test series 0-2 against New Zealand.
