Fact Check: Did Virat Kohli's Four Disturbed The Boundary Rope Before SKY's Catch?

While India’s T20 World Cup victory celebrations have already concluded, some conspiracy theorists are still stuck on Suryakumar Yadav’s final over catch, digging up fresh videos to prove the illegitimacy of the fielding effort.

Suryakumar Yadav changed the course of the 2024 T20 World Cup final in India’s favour with a sensational catch at the boundary rope to dismiss David Miller in the final over of the chase.

With 16 needed off the final 6 balls, Miller launched a massive hit over long-off where Suryakumar Yadav juggled the ball over the ropes to grab it just inches away from the boundary cushion.

However, some conspiracy theorists believe that SKY’s catch was illegal as the boundary rope had been pushed back from its original position. The discolouration around SKY’s foot fuelled those speculations. 

Now, in a fresh claim, a fan suggested that Virat Kohli’s four in the first innings resulted in the disturbance of ropes. The fan posted a video wherein Kohli went for a straight drive against Marco Jansen, and Aiden Markram dived over the boundary cushion to save the boundary. 

While Markam failed in his attempt, the ropes were moved from their original position, which eventually helped Suryakumar Yadav make a clean catch in the second innings.

However, few fans also countered the claim stating SKY’s catch happened at the other end and not where Markram dived to save Kohli’s boundary. 

Hence, Virat Kohli had no part to play in the disturbance of the boundary rope, and it is yet to be established if those claims are even true. 

At the end of the day, the ICC is the ultimate decision maker, and so far, the apex body has yet to take this accusation under consideration.
