The India squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 was supposed to be announce on January 12, Sunday, however, as per the latest report, the announcement has been delayed to next week.
The team for the England ODIs and Champions Trophy was set to be announced on Sunday, but this sudden decision has raised quite a few eyebrows amongst the Indian fans, who were expecting the team announcement.
However, there is a thought process behind this decision-making from the BCCI and here is the explanation.
Why BCCI delayed Champions Trophy squad selection? Explained
India have ticked all the boxes before the selection barring one. The team management and the players are sweating on Jasprit Bumrah's injury and there is a growing concern that the star bowler could miss the Champions Trophy due to a back injury.
BCCI are in direct touch with a renowned Orthopedic surgeon from New Zealand as the board wants the best doctors to handle Bumrah's injury. In the next couple of days, a final report might be released regarding his injury status and only after which the Indian side will announce their squad.
Changes India can make in the Champions Trophy squad
India are likely to include Yashasvi Jaiswal in the squad and he will be the third opener in the squad. Also, the selectors are contemplating on including both Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy as the two all-rounders.
Also, the team is also thinking on including Mohammad Shami in the squad. The ace pacer hasn't played a single game for India since the 2023 World Cup finals and was ruled out of the entire 2024 due to Achilles' heel injury.
