ENG-W vs SA-W | 1st ODI | SPOTLIGHT: Marizanne Kapp

Since making her International debut in 2009, the South African all-rounder has come a long way to be recognised among the world’s finest players. Marizanne Kapp has established herself as one of the senior names in the Proteas side, and has made several valuable contributions in the last 13 years.

Marizanne Kapp broke onto the International stage, when she was handed an ODI cap against Australia in March 2009. In her illustrious career, the 32-year-old has played 126 ODIs, 84 T20Is and 2 Test matches.

Bailing out her side from a troublesome situation with the bat, or opening the bowling with the new ball, Marizanne Kapp has done it all for South Africa. She has over 3000 International Runs, and more than 200 wickets to her name.

Marizanne Kapp has been simply astonishing in the 50-over format, where she has scored 2220 runs at an average of nearly 30. She has also picked up 146 wickets at an average of 24.10, and an economy rate of well under four.

Apart from her personal contributions, Marizanne Kapp has always been a team player and has never shied away from taking additional responsibility.

She is the first South African woman to claim a hat-trick in a T20I fixture. In 2017, she was named in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year. Just a couple of months after being included in the squad, Marizanne Kapp was among the 14 players to be awarded a national contract by Cricket South Africa.

In 2019, the all-rounder became only the third South African woman to play 100 ODIs. She has also competed in several domestic leagues around the world, which includes the Women’s Big Bash League and The Hundred.

Recently, Marizanne Kapp stole the headlines for her magnificent knock of 150 runs against England in the one-off Test match. This was also the highest total for a Proteas woman in the red-ball format.

South Africa are all set to lock horns against England in a three-match ODI series, which commences from Monday, 11th July. The two sides shared the spoils in the only Test match, which paved the way for an exciting limited overs series.

Marizanne Kapp is among the senior members in the visitors’ camp. She will look to bring out her A Game at Northampton on Monday, against a star-studded English side.
