ENG vs NZ | Kevin Pietersen: Would like to help young England's batting side

Regarded as one of England's best batters in Tests and ODIs, Kevin Pietersen has indicated that he would like to help the young England batting line-up. He also believed that the team needed a few more coaches who were not afraid to lose their jobs if things went south.

Lately, it has only been former captain Joe Root who has been carrying the team on his shoulder with his art of batting, amassing 2,355 runs since 2021, which includes 10 centuries and four fifties.

Speaking to mirror.co.uk, Pietersen said, "I'd like to help this new young England batting side. I'd like to help them because I think what England need is, they need a couple of coaches in there that are not scared to lose their job,"

The 104-Test player has in the past been at loggerheads with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which his ouster the side back in the day.

The South African-born communicated that he wants to seed a positive mindset into the psyche of the players.

"But to really back them. Back the youngsters and give them that positive mindset on thinking outside of the box, being creative, and being positive. So it's not a position where you look at a lot of coaches around the world and you think 'he needs that job'. I don't need that job but I would like to help these guys," explained Pietersen.

England will definitely benefit from someone like Pietersen, who was known for his aggressive approach and charged bowlers regardless of their reputation, which could help the likes of Ollie Pope, Alex Lees, Ben Foakes, and Zak Crawley.

The 41-year-old scored 8,181 Test runs, 4,440 ODI, and 1,176 T20I runs from 2004 to 2014. He hasn't coached a side since his retirement in 2018.

Pietersen has already given his stamp of approval to the duo of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, who started their era of red-ball cricket with a win against New Zealand in the first Test at Lord's.

"Brendon McCullum is a very interesting choice as England's Test match coach. I think his brand of cricket is one that will be along the same lines as what Rob Key and Ben Stokes want. It's also what the paying public want to watch. Something needed to change, and this is positive change," he told in an interview.
