ENG vs IND: 'We don’t want to peak too early' - Moeen Ali stresses on learning from losses

England’s white-ball side have had a complete makeover in terms of their captain and management. Jos Buttler and Matthew Mott have been recently announced as England’s limited-overs captain and head coach, respectively.

Jos Buttler has had a bumpy start to his new role as full-time captain, with more lows than highs. England lost the three-match T20I series to India and were thrashed by the visitors in the first ODI at  Oval.

English all-rounder Moeen Ali is not too concerned about the recent defeats and believes that adapting to the new management will take some more time. The 35-year-old added that England won most of their games on their road to World Cup triumph in 2019 but had a few setbacks.

The veteran all-rounder stressed the importance of learning from the defeats.

“It definitely takes time to bed in for the new management. It will take a few defeats which is fine,” said Moeen Ali.

“In the past, we have won a lot of games, got to a World Cup and lost those crucial games. We have lost a few games at the moment but that is good for us going forward and closer to a World Cup we will start winning.”

“We want to win now too but you don’t want to win all games. Sometimes you learn more from losing games,” Moeen added.

With the 50-over World Cup just 15 months away, Moeen Ali does not want the reigning champions to start peaking early. Instead, he wants England to progress steadily so that the players are at their absolute best for the marquee event in India next year.

“We have been dominating for the last few years in a nice way and playing well. We’ve had a lot of success, but sometimes I feel we don’t want to peak too early,” said the all-rounder.

That said, England will look to bounce back and prove their mettle against India in the second ODI on Thursday. The hosts were handed a humiliating 10-wicket defeat after being bundled out for just 110 runs.
