ENG vs IND | Jasprit Bumrah credits Test experience for his success in the first ODI

India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah shattered a strong England batting line-up with a six-fer at The Oval. The cricketer's sublime spell in the first ODI gave his side a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

For starters, he dismissed in-form Jonny Bairstow for just seven and removed Jason Roy, Joe Root and Liam Livingstone for ducks, all within the first ten overs of the English innings. Then, Bumrah returned to mop up the tail, thus folding up the hosts for just 110.

His 6-19 marked his second five-wicket haul and his best-ever bowling figures in ODIs. It's also the third-best figures for any Indian bowler in ODI cricket, after Stuart Binny's 6-4 and Anil Kumble's 6-12.

Bumrah, who earlier led India in their rescheduled fifth Test against the hosts, seems to have carried his Test wisdom into the ODI segment of the tour. Per his comments in the post-match presser, the 28-year-old speedster revealed that he and his new-ball partner Mohammed Shami had discussed bowling a "Test match length" in the game.

He said: "When we started the innings, we saw there was some seam and swing. We both (Shami and I) had a conversation that we should go a little fuller and try and bowl the Test match length. So, it was a good day and we got wickets… some help in the beginning and the wicket too was on the softer side".
