ENG v IND| 'Incredibly entertaining but also very smart', Michael Vaughan lauds Rishabh Pant

India won the ODI series against England after a remarkable performance in the third ODI on Sunday.

After scintillating performances from Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant, India managed to beat England at Old Trafford for the first time since the 1983 World Cup semi-final.

India have now won the ODI as well as the T20I series 2-1, after drawing the Test series 2-2.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya showed why is rated as one of the top all-rounders in international cricket. His all-round performance was crucial to India’s win in the white ball leg and he was justifiably chosen as the Player of the Series. He scored 71 from 55 balls and took 4 wickets after just conceding 24 runs from 7 overs on Sunday.

However, the player that stole the show was Rishabh Pant (125* of 113), who scored his maiden century in ODIs. With another ton in a decider, his reputation continues to grow as a match winner. He also became the fourth Indian wicket-keeper to score an ODI century after Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and KL Rahul.

Former England opener Michael Vaughan was full of praise for Pant and he tweeted, “What a cricketer Rishabh Pant is .. Incredibly entertaining but also very smart”.

The left-handed batter came to the crease with a lot to prove after a string of poor performances in the white ball format. Coming in at number four, India were in big trouble after losing both the openers within 5 overs.

Pant managed to stay put while wickets continued to tumble at the other end. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav couldn’t last long either. However, Pant was determined and he managed to stitch together a 133-run partnership with Pandya which proved to be the hammer blow for England.

Following the series win, India will travel to the West Indies for a white ball series consisting of 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. Pant and Pandya have been rested for the ODI matches.
