Either Kashmir Premier League or playing/working in India: BCCI draws red line for overseas players

Hours after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs alleged it of bringing “politics” and “disrepute” to the game, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has drawn a red line for the foreign players willing to play in the  Kashmir Premier League.

The board has clearly stated that players who are choosing to play in the tournament will be barred from playing or working in the country and that they are keeping “national interest” in mind on the line of the Indian government.

The BCCI official asserted that the board has no problems with players playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Notably, the KPL will be played in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, which the Indian government deems illegal occupation

“While asking the boards not to allow their players to take part in the Kashmir league, we have informed them that in case they do, they can’t be part of any cricketing activity in India. We have done this keeping national interest in mind,” a top BCCI official told The Sunday Express.

“We have no problems with those playing the Pakistan Super League (PSL) but this is a league in PoK. We are toeing our government’s line.”

The issue of KPL has become another throne in the flesh of relations between the PCB and the BCCI which is already at an all-time low.

PCB blames BCCI for bringing Cricket into "disrepute", says will raise Kashmir Premier League issue

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its displeasure over reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the ICC members to withdraw their retired cricketers from the Kashmir Premier League (KPL). “The PCB considers that the BCCI has brought the game into disrepute by issuing warnings to multiple ICC Members to stop their retired cricketers from featuring in the Kashmir Premier League, further threatening they will not be allowed entry into India for cricket-related work,” PCB said in a statement. “Such conduct from the BCCI is completely unacceptable, against the preamble of the Spirit of Cricket and sets a dangerous precedent, which can neither be tolerated nor ignored,” it further added. The PCB has further stated that it will raise the matter at the “appropriate” ICC forum. “The PCB will raise this matter at the appropriate ICC forum and also reserves the right to take any further action that is available to us within the ICC charter,” PCb said. Earlier, former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs had alleged that the BCCI is trying to prevent him from playing the KPL. The tournament comprises six teams, Overseas Warriors, Muzaffarabad Tigers, Rawalakot Hawks, Bagh Stallions, Mirpur Royals and Kotli Lions. Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi, Shadab Khan, Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal would be leading their respective sides. There are some prominent former players such as Matt Prior, Dilshan, Monty Panesar who are going to be a part of this competition. The teams will also have at least five players from the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) in the line up.
