England and Wales Cricket Board has announced a 14-man squad for the three-match ODI series against the Netherlands to be played on June 17, 19, and 22 at VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen.
The notable inclusions in this fresh squad have been David Payne and Luke Wood. Whereas Sam Curran and Brydon Carse have been brought back into the ODI setup.
Carse featured in the series against Pakistan last year and took six wickets in three appearances. Curran has been cleared of injury concerns and returned with fine performances in the 2022 edition of the County Championship for Surrey.
Gloucestershire pacer Payne is likely to get a chance in Playing XI after he missed out in the Pakistan series last year. The 31-year-old has been in good form in the ongoing T20 Blast, with five wickets in two appearances.
On the other hand, Wood has earned a maiden national call-up due to his fine all-round performances for Lancashire.
The newly appointed white-ball coach of the England team, Matthew Mott, spoke at length after the squad's announcement.
"I'm very excited to be coaching a strong squad for my first series in charge. We have tremendous depth with a blend of youth and experience. We want to continue to play in an expressive style and let our players showcase their skills and firepower," Mott stated.
"Luke Wood deserves his call-up. He has been consistent for Lancashire over the past 12 months, and we have been monitoring his progression. If given a chance to play, I'm sure he will make the most of his opportunity.
"This is a historic occasion for the sport and the first time England has played The Netherlands in an ODI series. We can't wait to head over to Amsterdam and put on a show for the thousands of fans travelling to support the team," the head coach concluded.
In the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, England are in second position with nine victories in 15 matches. On the other hand, the Netherlands are in the last place with only two wins after 10 outings.
It will be an important series for the Dutch team, determining whether they can bag the top eight positions in the points table and be a part of the 2023 World Cup.
