Durham have signed Andrew Tye as a replacement for Ashton Turner, who picked up a shoulder injury during a league game of the ongoing Vitality T20 Blast 2022.
An official statement released by Durham confirmed that Durham's captain for the T20 Blast 2022, Ashton Turner, is undergoing "a process of rehabilitation" in the hope that he might be able to feature once again later in the group stage.
After jarring his left shoulder while diving to make his ground, Turner was forced to retire hurt during Durham's game against Northamptonshire on Friday night.
"There are still lots of games to play, and having lost Ashton Turner to injury, we were keen to act quickly on a replacement," said Marcus North, Durham's director of cricket.
Durham's director of cricket welcomed the Australian right-arm pacer into the squad as the club was keen to get a replacement soon; they got to know about the seriousness of the injury.
"We are pleased to welcome AJ to Durham for the Vitality Blast; there are still lots of games to play, and having lost Ashton Turner to injury, were keen to act quickly on a replacement," director of cricket Marcus North said.
"He has an impressive T20 record both at the international level and domestically, and we are looking forward to getting straight into action tonight," he added.
Tye has previously played for Gloucestershire in the T20 Blast while also having turned out for Durham's second team alongside Mark Wood and Chris Rushworth more than a decade ago.
Meanwhile, Liam Trevaskis is expected to continue the role of leading the Durham team in Turner's absence.
Tye is a seasoned T20 specialist who is also well versed with the drill of IPL and has represented Australia in 32 T20Is and picked 47 wickets.
