DRS Controversy: Howler Makes Hayley Matthews' Life Tough vs UP Warriorz

The Women's Premier League (WPL 2023) fixture between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz saw one of the funniest yet improper incidents. An lbw decision was overturned twice because of the production team's howler.

The incident happened in the fifth over of Mumbai's innings, when the UP team appealed for a leg before against Hayley Matthews. After insistence from the bowler - Sophie Ecclestone, Captain Alyssa Healy reviewed the decision.

Initially, the production team of the host broadcaster made a rookie error as they showed the replay in reverse, meaning it seemed that the ball thudded Matthews on her pad before hitting her blade. Due to this, the MI opener was asked to return to the hut.

But, an adamant Windies batter didn't agree with the third umpire's incorrect decision and pleaded with the umpire to relook into her case. And after convincing the on-field umpires and the UP team, Matthews' case was rechecked, and justice was finally delivered.

In the end, the 'real replay' showed that the ball was hitting the bat first, which was previously seen otherwise.

However, the English spinner had the last laugh as she snapped Matthews on 12 in the 8th over of the chase. MI have also lost on Yastika Bhatia, who was looking good for her 27-ball 42.

Meanwhile, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt are doing good work for the team in a chase of 160 runs.
