The domestic players who lost out on income as well as match time, due to the shortening of the domestic season of 2020-21 will be compensated by the BCCI as was planned. The main reason behind compensation yet not being paid was the inability to come at a conjecture about the basis of playmate to players. That now seems to have been cleared.
According to a working committee's suggestion, which was formed to discuss the compensation of the players, the compensation will be based on the income of the previous 2019-20 season when all the matches were played.
The committee suggested that about 50-75 per cent of the income of the previous season be paid to players. It further authorised Board President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah to decide on the compensation.
"The secretary will decide on the exact amount. He has been authorised. He is well equipped on the accounting matter," Cricbuzz quoted a source as saying.
The suggestions of the committee will be taken up during the BCCI’s Apex Council meeting on September 20. Players’ compensation has been put up as one of the main agendas of the meeting.
The final decision will be taken by the compensation committee which includes four office-bearers - Sourav Ganguly, Jay Shah, Rajiv Shukla and Arun Dhumal.
