Dewald Brevis throws light on his first meeting with Sachin Tendulkar

Mumbai Indians' (MI) young batter Dewald Brevis remembered his first meeting with the Indian legend and the team's icon Sachin Tendulkar.

In an interview with the YouTube channel Cricket Fanatics, Brevis recalled the incident when he met Sachin Tendulkar for the very first time in his young career. From Brevis' childhood days, he admired Sachin, and he's grateful that he got to learn the small technical details from the Master Blaster and the MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene.

"I was laying on the floor of the gym and suddenly Sachin [Tendulkar] sir appeared at the door. I didn't know what to do and the first time I shook his hand, it was insane. Have idolized him and the small technical details he taught me were special. It was great to learn from legends like him and coach Mahela [Jayawardene]," Dewald Brevis said.

Brevis came into the spotlight after making a name for himself in the ICC U19 World Cup earlier this year, where he was the player of the tournament for scoring the most runs in the world event.

After that, he was picked by the five-time champions for a whopping INR 3 crores at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 player auctions in Bangalore.

He didn't disappoint the management as he looked good in whatever limited opportunities he got in the 15th edition of the IPL. Brevis finished the season with 161 runs from the seven games he got to feature in, averaging 23 and a strike rate of 142.48, with his highest score being 49. 

The highlight of his season was a sensational effort when he smashed Punjab Kings' leg-spinner Rahul Chahar for four sixes in a row in one over. With his part-time leg-spin, he went on to pick up his only IPL wicket, that of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli.

This was his first experience of playing in the biggest and toughest T20 league in the world. While speaking about sharing the dressing room and meeting some Indian capped stars like Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and others in the squad, the Proteas teen sensation said it was 'special' to meet other MI players.

"It was very special to meet Rohit [Sharma], Ishan [Kishan], and the whole team when I finished quarantine. Of course, my debut was a special memory, playing in front of so many people. The louder it gets, the higher the pressure gets and I love that. The pressure to perform for MI is good because it motivates you to get another trophy for the team."

MI had a forgettable campaign as they only registered their first win of the season after eight unsuccessful attempts. Still, one of the positives of this season for the Mumbai-based franchise would be the emergence of Brevis.
