New Zealand opener Devon Conway and England spinner Sophie Ecclestone were named the ICC Players of the Month for June. Conway had a dream start to his Test career after he struck a double-century at Lord’s on his debut for the Blackcaps against England and followed it with a couple of fifties.
The left-handed batsman was a part of the New Zealand side that defeated India in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship.
Conway expressed his delight on winning the award and also talked about scoring the double-century at Lord’s.
I’m truly honoured to win this award. That I have received it for my performances in Test cricket makes it extra special,” he said.
“Scoring a double century at Lord’s was a dream come true for me and to have also been able to contribute to our win over India in the ICC World Test Championship Final is something that I know I will proudly look back on in years to come,” Conway added.
England’s Ecclestone was the most successful bowler in the first-off Test against India that took place in Bristol. She scalped a total of eight wickets during the match.
Ecclestone said that it is good to get such a recognition. “It’s really nice to win this award. It’s after a period in which we’ve played all three formats so it feels good to be recognised for my performances in the Test and the white-ball series,” she said.
