Delhi and District Cricket Association [DDCA] planning a Women’s league this year

With the Women's IPL likely to start in 2023, there is no real news on players' breakdown or whether the scouting of players has begun. However, various state cricket associations will be giving their best support for the Women's IPL.

After bringing back a multi-day tournament for women in Delhi, the Delhi and District Cricket Association plans to start a women's league this year to provide more exposure to the players.

DDCA president Rohan Jaitley said, "We currently have 165 women cricketers registered across age groups. Plans are afoot to start a league soon this year. The BCCI is planning to start the Women's IPL, and the ICC is also having the inaugural U-19 Women'sWomen's World Cup in January. It'sIt's important that more opportunities are given to women players at the lower level".

These initiatives show that DDCA fully supports promoting women's cricket in the country. Jaya Sharma, Anjum Chopra, Reema Malhotra and recent Indian players Priya Puniya and Simran Bahadur are some of the best cricketers of India produced by the DDCA.

By adding more tournaments of different formats, DDCA can ensure keeping their women cricketers' calendars busy. The Women's league will be known as the Challenger Trophy, a 2-day tournament with 12 teams participating.

The selectors will make the selections based on the players' database, including the performances of various players from different age groups. The association also plans to have all-women support staff for the women's teams.

They are also planning to develop an indoor facility at the Arun Jaitley stadium. With players facing space constraints at the stadium, the association plans to have at least two indoor pitches for women cricketers. The DDCA is also looking to acquire grounds to develop its facilities.
