  • Dawid Malans Historical Feat And 5 Key Stats From The Record Breaking Eng Ned Game

Dawid Malan’s historical feat and 5 key stats from the record-breaking ENG-NED game

On June 17 (Friday), England were at their absolute best to register the highest-ever ODI score of 498 runs in the first fixture of the three-match bilateral series against Netherlands at VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen.

After the departure of Jason Roy in the second over, Phil Salt (122) and Dawid Malan (125) were involved in a 222-run stand for the second wicket.

During the onslaught, Malan became the only second batter from England to hit centuries across all formats of the game. The first English cricketer to achieve this feat was Jos Buttler, who earned it in November last year after scoring a ton against Sri Lanka in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup.

After the departure of Salt in the 30th over, Buttler arrived at the crease. Malan and Buttler put together a quickfire stand of 184 runs to propel the team past 400. While captain Eoin Morgan was dismissed for a duck, in-form batter Liam Livingstone unleashed his finishing abilities for the England team.

At the end of 50 overs, England finished with 498/4, with Buttler remaining unbeaten on 162 off 70 balls, comprising seven fours and 14 sixes. On the other hand, Livingstone hammered 66* off 22 balls, with six boundaries and as many maximums.

5 Key Stats of the game:

26- The highest number of sixes in an ODI inning, surpassing the previous record of 25 sixes hit by them against Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup.

498- England broke their own record for the highest score in an ODI game, wherein they hit 481/6 against Australia in 2018.

62- No team has now hit more boundaries in ODIs than the number hit by England in this game. The second-best is 56 fours from Sri Lanka in 2006 at the same ground against the Netherlands.

65- Buttler reached the mark of 150 in 65 deliveries, which is the fastest by any Three Lions batter in the history of ODI cricket. The fastest to 150 was AB de Villiers in 64 balls in the 2015 edition of the ODI World Cup.

108- Philippe Boissevain finished with 0/108 in his full quota of 10 overs, which is the fourth most expensive figure in ODI cricket. The likes of Mick Lewis (0-113), Wahab Riaz (0-110), and Rashid Khan (0-110) have conceded more than him in the 50-overs format.
