The six teams of the Caribbean Premier League have confirmed their pre-draft retention and signing of local players for the upcoming season. The tenth season of the league is scheduled to start on 30 August, and the players are expected to arrive by 23 August.
In two pre-draft windows for the 2022 season, each team retained up to five Caribbean players with a maximum of two from the top five salary spots. They were then allowed to sign two more local players.
“These could be new signings from those who were not retained by other teams or players who appeared for that team in the previous season,” the media release explains.
Trinbago Knight Riders have made two massive signings as they have added Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran to their ranks. Whereas, their retentions are Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales and Tion Webster.
The defending champions, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, have retained their captain Dwayne Bravo, Evin Lewis, Sheldon Cottrell, Sherfane Rutherford and Dominic Drakes. Meanwhile, they have roped in Darren Bravo and Andre Fletcher.
Now coming to the Jamaica Tallawahs, who have retained three players - skipper Rovman Powell, Kennar Lewis and Shamarh Brooks. While Brandon King and Fabian Allen are their latest recruits.
Last season’s Player of the Tournament - Roston Chase - has been retained by St. Lucia Kings. They have also snapped the services of Kesrick Williams, Jeavor Royal and Alzarri Joseph. Apart from the retentions, Johnson Charles and Mark Deyal are the new signings.
Barbados Royals will also continue with their captain Jason Holder, along with Kyle Mayers, Hayden Walsh, Oshane Thomas and Nyeem Young. Devon Thomas and Obed McCoy are the two Royals signings.
Lastly, Guyana Amazon Warriors have retained Shimron Hetmyer, Odean Smith, Romario Shepherd and Chandrapaul Hemraj; meanwhile, Keemo Paul and Gudakesh Motie are their new signings.
The league was in limelight earlier in the year when they announced the inaugural edition of Women’s CPL. The buzz is running high among fans as both competitions will run simultaneously.
