Yorkshire continued to dominate Warwickshire on Day 3 of their County Championship game. An inspiring bowling spell from Jordan Thompson dismantled Warwickshire’s top-order. The visitors are stuttering at 57/3, trailing by 149 runs. Only a hurricane effort from Warwickshire’s batters can push the game towards a draw.
Having conceded a lead of 206 runs, Warwickshire would have hoped for a strong start from the openers. However, they could not live up to the expectations.
Thompson wreaked havoc and removed Alex Davies, Dominic Sibley and Robert Yates by the 13th over. Then, with the score reading 25/3, a threat of bundling out for a paltry score loomed large on the visitors.
However, Sam Hain and Will Rhodes have played cautiously and seen off about 27 overs combined. Warwickshire would like the duo to continue the good work on the final day.
Earlier, Yorkshire resumed the day on 269/4, with Harry Duke giving the centurion Adam Lyth company. The duo mustered 60 runs for the fifth wicket before Lyth fell five runs short of the 150 mark.
Nathan McAndrew ended a towering effort from Lyth, which lasted 330 deliveries. Then, Dominic Bess returned to the pavilion on just 1. Jordan Thompson played a short, exciting knock of 16 (off 20 balls), with two fours and a six to his name. McAndrew returned to prize out both Thompson and Duke to reduce the home side to 383/8. Duke played 123 balls for his 48 and scored six boundaries.
Matthew Revis and captain Steven Patterson helped Yorkshire take the team’s total to 450 and the overall lead over 200. Revis remained unbeaten on 53, a knock studded with eight fours and a six. Nathan McAndrew was the most successful bowler for Warwickshire, as he returned with a four-wicket haul.
