Division Two of the ongoing 2022 County Championship resumed with two matches on Tuesday, July 19. Here is a look at the highlights from each of the two games at the end of the opening day of action.
Derbyshire vs Nottinghamshire
Division Two table-toppers Nottinghamshire batted throughout the day to pile up 439-1. After opener Ben Slater’s early dismissal, Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett formed an unbeaten 393-run second wicket stand.
Both plundered huge tons, with Duckett reaching a rapid 237* before stumps. Derbyshire’s Anuj Dal picked the lone wicket to fall on the day after toiling away for 16 overs.

Middlesex vs Sussex
Sussex, languishing at number seven on the eight-team Division Two standings, charted 328 on the opening day against a high-flying Middlesex unit.
Tom Alsop and interim skipper Cheteshwar Pujara both smacked hundreds, with the latter of the two finding himself unbeaten at 115 before stumps.
Middlesex pacer Tom Helm claimed three of the four wickets to fall in the day, all while conceding just 63 runs in his 20 overs.
