The second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will entirely take place within a single state, as confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah earlier this month. While Shah refused to confirm the exact venue at the time, recent reports indicate that the tournament might take place in either of the four possible cities, including Lucknow and Bangalore.

WPL 2024 venues to be finalized soon

According to Sports Tak, the WPL 2024 season will likely be held in either Lucknow, Kanpur, Chennai, or Bangalore. While Lucknow and Kanpur have emerged as favourite destinations at the moment, no official confirmation has been given by either the WPL governing body or from any of the BCCI officials.

While speaking with the reporters on the sidelines of the WPL 2024 auction earlier in December in Mumbai, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the much-awaited tournament will take place entirely in a single state and will commence from mid-February onwards next year. He said:

“It is decided that we will have the tournament in February, most probably we will start in the second or third week. As far as the venue is concerned, it will be held in one state only so that it is better logistically.”

At the time, Shah added that the BCCI were zeroing in on Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, or Bangalore as possible venues for the competition.

Interestingly, the inaugural chapter of WPL that unfolded back in March also took place entirely within two venues. Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium and the adjoining DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai hosted all 22 matches of the premier T20 event, where the hosts, the Mumbai Indians, emerged victorious by defeating the Delhi Capitals in the final.
