Brydon Carse to miss England vs South Africa ODI series decider with injury

England fast bowler Brydon Carse will not be available for the third and final fixture of the ODI series against South Africa. He had injured his right big toe during the series opener at Chester-le-Street.

On Saturday (23 July), Carse left the England squad and is set to be properly assessed by the medical team in the coming weeks.

Carse returned with figures of 1/46 in nine overs and contributed to a quickfire 14 in the first ODI.

In the recently completed 50-over series against India, the 26-year-old had returned with two scalps in three appearances.

Carse’s tryst with injuries

In November last year, Carse had torn cartilage in his right knee during the England tour to Australia. It transpired in the team’s practice session ahead of the first match.

The injury ruled the fast bowler out for five months from competitive cricket and he finally returned in April this year.

Since making his ODI debut in July 2021 against Pakistan, Carse has scalped 12 wickets in nine appearances.

ENG vs SA 3rd ODI

England secured a confidence-boosting victory by 118 runs in the second ODI to level the series 1-1. The return of David Willey and Reece Topley certainly boosted the team’s prospects.

Proteas had sustained a loss of 1-2 in the 50-0vers series on their last tour to England in 2017. It will be interesting to see if they can pull off a major turnaround to secure a series victory this time around.

The third ODI will be played on 24 July at Headingley, Leeds.
