Ben Stokes's England cricket team is currently locked in a fierce battle against a dominant Pakistan in the first Test of their three-match Test series at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan. With Day 2 in full swing, the English men are in a tough spot, desperately needing wickets to halt Shan Masood and Co., who are already flying high on the home ground with 400+ scores and still a couple of wickets in hand.

Reflecting on the scintillating centuries by skipper Shan Masood and opener Abdullah Shafique on Day 1, veteran England legends Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen have sparked a heated debate with their criticism of the Multan pitch. Vaughan described the pitch as a 'road in Multan, ' while Pietersen went as far as to call it a 'graveyard'.

Pakistan Batters Dominate On Flat Multan Pitch

Pakistan asserted dominance on Day 1 of the first Test against England. Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique's magnificent hundreds were the reply to Gus Atkinson, who got rid of just Saim Ayub for 4 runs in the first hour. Shafique and Masood steered an excellent partnership across the first session as Pakistan reached 122 for 1 at lunch.

On a day when the spinners were primarily kept at bay, both batters continued showing dominance. After lunch, Pakistan's brilliant stand of 111 runs helped them reach 233-1 by tea. Masood ended a four-year century drought, scoring his fifth Test ton off just 102 balls, while Shafique approached his own century at 94*.

After tea, Shafique celebrated his century with a six off Jack Leach but was soon dismissed by Atkinson for 118. Masood, however, continued his assault, scoring 151 runs from 177 balls, including 13 fours and 2 sixes.

Despite the late-stage collapse, Pakistan lost Babar Azam for 30 just before stumps and closed the day at 328-4, with Saud Shakeel on 35* alongside Naseem Shah. Continuing their excellence on Day 2, Shakeel and Naseem's heroics along with help from Agha Salman, Pakistan are currently at 473/8.
