Australia has announced its 14-player squad for the upcoming three-match T20 series against New Zealand. However, the team will be missing their regular captain, Alyssa Healy, who is still recovering from a right foot injury. In her absence, all-rounder Tahlia McGrath will once again take over as stand-in captain, while Beth Mooney will handle wicketkeeping duties.

Who is Replacing Alyssa Healy?

Victoria’s wicketkeeper-batter Nicole Faltum has received her first-ever international call-up. The 25-year-old Melbourne Renegades player has played 51 innings in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), scoring 429 runs. Although her overall stats aren’t outstanding, she has shown good form recently.

In the last WBBL season, she scored 136 runs in eight innings, averaging 27.20 with an impressive strike rate of 134.65. She also hit her first-ever WBBL half-century since making her debut in 2017.

Faltum had a strong season for the Renegades after switching teams within Melbourne last year. Her performances in the middle order have caught the selectors' attention, making her a potential option for the future.

With Healy still unavailable, young batter Georgia Voll will continue to open the innings. The rest of the squad remains mostly unchanged, but Australia will also be without Sophie Molineux and Tayla Vlaeminck, who are recovering from injuries.

The three-match T20I series begins on March 21 in Auckland, with the squad assembling on March 18, shortly after the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final.
