It was an inning of the lifetime from English superstar Ben Stokes, who racked up a classic 182 against New Zealand, leading him to the highest-ever score by an England player in One Day Cricket. The all-rounder recently made his comeback to ODI cricket after a gap of almost one year in a bid to boost his side's World Cup chances in India next month.

With his power-packed innings, the superstar has recorded himself in many books, not just for his country but overall in ODI cricket. Taking 124 balls for his iconic knock, he smashed 15 fours and nine sixes while batting at an impressive strike rate of 146.

His 182 is now the highest score by an English player in ODIs as he bested Jason Roy, who demolished the Australian side back in 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Further, he is also in the more significant records as his 182 is now the second highest score while batting at number four position with West Indian legend Sir Vivian Richards holding the accolade to his name till date with an 189 not out, which he managed against England in 1984 in Manchester. Surprisingly, Richards also occupies the third position with 181, which he amassed against Sri Lanka in 1987.

Coming back to the match, England were two down for 13, after which the duo of Stokes and Dawid Malan took the responsibility of scoring big as they smashed 182 and 96, respectively. Their marvellous effort took the Three Lions to a mammoth total of 368, and by the time of writing, the BlackCaps were 99/5 after the end of 22 overs.
