In a first, BCCI will allow franchises to buy players outside of IPL auction

All the eight franchises will be allowed to retain as many as four players before the mega auction to be organised, but they will have to spend up to 40 per cent of their players’ purse to retain their services, Cricbuzz reported. The players’ purse for the franchise will be raised to Rs 90 crore and it can extend up to Rs 95 and Rs 100 crore over the next two years, the report said further. There will be the addition of two franchises in the mag auction, and the BCCI is likely to allow them an opportunity to buy two to three players before the actual auction process, the report further said. There are chances that two foreign players will be bought through this process in absence of too many Indian names. The report also suggested that the eight franchises will not get the option to play the Right to Match cards in the auction and hence their tactics of holding onto players will ve limited to retention of players only. The BCCI will announce all the relevant modalities of the mega auction right after the conclusion of the process of selling the two franchises for which there have been a lot of interest from business houses from India and abroad.

The star Bollywood couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are interested in owning a franchise in the Indian Premier League and the duo will join hands with the owners of the Manchester United football club in a consortium to bid for one of the two franchises to come up from the next season, Outlook reported. The Board of Control for Cricket in India will decide the winners of the bids for the ninth and 10th IPL franchises on October 25, a day after the marquee clash between India and Pakistan. As per the terms and conditions set by the board, consortium bidding for an IPL franchise must have an annual turnover of Rs 3,000 crore or individuals bidding for sides in personal capacity must have a net worth of Rs 2,500 crore. The BCCI has relaxed the norms a wee bit but the extent of the exemption is not clear as of yet. Apart from the Glazer family and Ranveer-Deepika, there are other business houses such as the Adani Group, RP- Sanjiv Goenka Group, Aurobindo Pharma and Torrent Pharma have also shown keen interest in owning the IPL franchise. As per various media reports, the BCCI is keen to give the ownership of two IPL franchises to Indian individuals or businesses only while foreign ownership can be allowed in teams if they open their business in India.
