The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold its Apex Council meeting on July 7. According to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, the Indian board will be discussing about the media rights process.

Other agendas to be discussed at the meet include the participation of retired Indian players in overseas leagues, alongside tour packages for the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India.

BCCI to make key decisions around media rights

The BCCI is currently without a broadcaster for their domestic and home matches. Previously, Disney Star had acquired the rights in 2018 to stream the BCCI matches until 2023. The deal lapsed earlier this year because the network was not willing to shell out bigger numbers for Team India’s international matches upon BCCI’s request.

As of now, the Duleep Trophy matches remains unavailable for viewership for fans.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that they will be discussing about the media rights deal and will hopefully come to a conclusion by the end of August.

Among other agendas, the Indian board will also debate about the participation of retired Indian players in overseas leagues.

Is Asian Games on for India?

The inclusion of Indian cricket team at the Asian Games will also be up for discussion. The Indian team did not participate the last time cricket was included in an Asian Games event back in 2010 and 2014. The upcoming games will be hosted by China between September 24 and October 7.

If the BCCI decides for Team India’s participation this time around, the team will likely be a young one, considering several senior members will be preparing for the World Cup 2023 around the same time. The Pakistan and Afghanistan cricket boards have already announced their squads for the tournament.

The BCCI, who added the Impact Player Rule in this year’s IPL, will be considering the possibility of adding the rule in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches.

In addition, key decisions are set to be taken around the 2023 World Cup, like coming up with a tour package for the tournament.
