BCCI President Sourav Ganguly says India tour of South Africa is on as planned

Amid rising uncertainty surrounding India’s tour of South Africa scheduled to start later this month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India President Sourav Ganguly has said that the tour is on and will go ahead as planned. However, he said that depending on the situation now, the BCCI will ponder over the tour and they also have time to do so with the first Test scheduled to start on December 17.

“The tour is on as things stand till now. We still have time to decide. The first Test is scheduled from December 17. We will ponder about it,” PTI quoted Ganguly as saying. “Players’ security and health has always been BCCI’s first priority, we will do everything possible for this. We will see what happens in the days to come.”

The tour came under scanner as South Africa reported cases of the latest variant of the novel Coronavirus and flight ban from South Africa. The Netherlands cancelled their ODI series against South Africa right after the start of the series but India continued to play their A series against South Africa despite the Covid-19 threat and subsequent uncertainties.

India are scheduled to play three Tests, three ODIs and four T20Is.
