In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) penalised veteran all-rounder Axar Patel for breaching a major rule in Delhi Capitals' latest IPL 2025 encounter against Mumbai Indians. Last night, the Capitals witnessed their winning streak being broken, with Hardik Pandya's MI defeating them by 12 runs in a high-scoring thriller at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Axar Patel Fined 12 Lakhs For Slow Over Rate

Apart from the heart-breaking defeat, DC suffered another setback, as their captain Axar Patel was slapped with a hefty fine for their slow over rate against MI. The match referee found Axar's team guilty of violating article 2.22 of the IPL code of conduct, imposing a penalty of INR 12 lakhs on the skipper.

"As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs," the IPL media release stated.

Surprisingly, the Capitals couldn't complete their full quota of overs in the allotted time despite having three spin bowlers in their arsenal. This is the reason why Axar was handed with a heavy fine following DC's first defeat of the season.

MI Break DC's Winning Momentum In IPL 2025

Regarding the match, Mumbai Indians posted a challenging total of 205 runs, riding on Tilak Varma's valiant fifty and useful knocks from Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir.

Although Karun Nair's breathtaking innings powered the Capitals to 119 for one in 10.1 overs, Karn Sharma's sensational three-fer swung the game in the favour of MI, who eventually sealed the game with an over to spare.
