The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will likely increase the salary cap ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. As per reports, several competing franchises have also requested the cricket board to increase the number of player retentions for the next three seasons.

As per current norms, each franchise is permitted to retain a maximum of four players at a mega auction, and the salary cap at the moment stands at Rs. 100 crores.

BCCI to increase salary cap for IPL 2025?

As reported by Cricbuzz, several IPL franchises have recommended the BCCI to increase the number of player retentions for the upcoming 2025 mega auction.

While some franchises requested the retention to be increased from four players to anywhere between five and eight retentions, one particular franchise even suggested eight.

Moreover, requests have also been made to allow only Right-to-Match (RTM) cards by some franchises instead of retaining players.

BCCI acting CEO Hemang Amin, who reportedly gathered the aforementioned suggestions by consulting with the CEOs of all franchises, further implied that the salary cap for franchises might be increased from Rs. 100 crores to a range between Rs.110 and Rs.120 crores.

The IPL 2024 season recently concluded with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lifting their third title. With a mega auction to be staged for the IPL 2025 season, presumably later this year, the BCCI will be expected to come to a decision beforehand.
