On Thursday, July 4, India landed in New Delhi with the World Cup trophy and were welcomed by thousands of fans at the airport. The fans were patiently tracking the special flight since Wednesday to get a glimpse of their favourite stars.

India had won the World Cup on Saturday but could not return to India because of a cyclone in Barbados. Nonetheless, BCCI took the initiative to bring the players back home and arranged a special charter Air India flight.

On Wednesday, the players boarded the special 'AIC24WC' Air India flight from the Barbados airport. However, in recent events, the Roger Binny-led cricket board is in trouble as they have been accused of diverting a regular passenger flight to Barbados just to fly the players back home.

Notably, the flight was scheduled to fly from Newark, New Jersey to Delhi, but it was diverted to Barbados. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken note of the situation and requested a detailed report from Air India which is trouble for the airlines and cricket board.

Leading News Agency, PTI reported that the airlines have issued a justification, and stated that the passengers were given a heads-up about the diversion before boarding the flight in New Jersey. Air India officials also added that only a few passengers had to face little difficulty while the others were fine with the diversion.
