BCCI heads discuss possible windows for Women's IPL - Reports

After conducting successful four editions of the Women's T20 Challenge, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) now plans to form a full-fledged IPL-like competition for the women cricketers.

With the fans' outpour for the Women's IPL running high for quite some time now, the BCCI heads seemed to have obliged their demand as the tournament is all set to start in 2023.

As per an ANI report, Board President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah were involved in a meeting with the stakeholders of the to-be-launched tournament during the recently-concluded IPL final. The league will be a six-team tourney and could possibly be held in March/April or September/October next year.

"There was a meeting during the IPL final. There are two windows for which a green signal has to be obtained, one in March/April and the second one in September/October. We will also get in touch with ICC to seek a separate window. BCCI could start men's IPL in May next year," a source close to the development told ANI

However, the women players are yet to get a taste of the IPL; they still have a mini version of it named as Women's T20 Challenge that runs alongside the playoff stage of the men's competition.

In the recent-most season of the event, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Supernovas thumped Deepak Sharma and co. by four runs in the final to win their third trophy.
